Kathy received her early training
in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with the prestigious Knecht Dance
Academy. Although ballet is her forte, at Knecht's she received
an education second to none in all forms of dance. She also
studied extensively with David Howard and Patricia Wilde at the
School of the American Ballet Theater in New York City. She is a
former Miss Dance of Pennsylvania.
Kathy danced professionally
for seven years with the Coburg Opera Ballet in Coburg, Germany.
There, she performed in various classical ballets, operas,
operettas and musicals. Her years on stage in Germany have
helped to mold the kind of teacher and choreographer that she
has become. Since relocating from Europe, Kathy has instructed
and choreographed in various schools in Pennsylvania and New
Jersey. With a strong desire to share her passion for dance with
children, in September of 1994 she opened the doors to her own
school. The Kathy Henkel School of Dance is located in the
Cherry Tree Crossings Shopping Center in the heart of Washington
Township, NJ. For the past 14 years, Kathy and her accomplished
faculty have had the priviledge of instructing countless local
children in Classical Ballet, Pointe,Tap, Jazz and Modern Dance.
Many of her students are featured in local middle school and
high school performing arts programs while others have gone on
to college to continue their dance training.
Amidst being artistic director of the school, Kathy still actively
instructs Kindergarten-Advanced Levels of Ballet at KHSoD. Kathy is an active member of Dance Masters of America, a national organization of certified dance teachers. She has completed a teaching seminar at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the Vaganova method of classical ballet and in keeping with her philosophy, she is committed to the ongoing study of dance by attending regional and national dance conventions with the nation's top dance professionals. She resides in Mantua township with her husband Klaus and three children, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Patrick.
